For the second year in a row, a Westchester businesswoman is among the winners in the "Make Mine a $Million Business" competition, held last weekend in Atlanta. Sharon Brown, owner of Pleasantville-based Selona (www.selonabeauty.com), a line of skin-care products sold at high-end spas, resorts and boutiques worldwide, was among eight winners in the latest round of the competition, in which business owners present their business plans to judges. Brown, whose business is just 2 years old, said she expects Selona to cross the million-dollar threshold in late 2008. The Hartsdale resident said her business has benefited from unique circumstances that have helped promote her line, not the least of which was being included in gift bags given to attendees of the 2006 Grammy Awards.
Stallion Oilfield to enter new segment with acquisitions
Stallion Oilfield Services Inc. is preparing to purchase two more oilfield services companies and has several other acquisitions in the works, according to a regulatory filing. Houston-based Stallion, in the midst of staging an initial public offering, said in a June 5 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission that it intends to use some proceeds of the IPO, about $250 million, to finance the two acquisitions. The company's initial SEC filing in April said the company would seek to raise as much as $400 million in the IPO. .
First meeting awaits TFC, Red Bulls
Winners now of three of their last four in their suddenly impregnable BMO Field fortress, Toronto FC play host to the New York Red Bulls on Wednesday night. TFC is now in sixth place in the Eastern Conference, with three wins and a draw in their last five matches overall. The Red Bulls come off a loss last weekend in Kansas City which ended a two-game winning run - both by shutout.
